Screenings & Discussions
even norwich launch

I worked with three other people to produce the Even launch event in October 2022. Our intention was to find a permanent space for experimental performance, music and film. For my part, I was invested in bringing artist moving image into non-normative exhibition spaces and experimenting with different contexts for open discussions. The project was a valuable learning experience, understanding first-hand the graft that goes into starting a DIY project from scratch with no fixed venue and no funds (bar £500 from the council to provide food and refreshments for artists). We realised that the community in Norwich was equally dedicated to the project (the sold out launch event was followed by multiple sold out events!). The group doesn’t exist anymore, but since this effort two independent venues have been set up.

For the launch event, I curated a screening of Reading Time (Charles de Agustin, 2021) followed by a participatory response exercise which I facilitated.
This work had come through open submissions while I was working as Documentary Programme at London Short Film Festival. I couldn’t find a place for it in the programme, and was looking for another context to present it in. I later participated in Charles’ project Present - a platform for time-based and discursive art practices. You can see the recording of my session, here.
